OSUN STATE, NIGERIA: Veteran journalist and media entrepreneur, Chief Dr Dele Momodu, has reaffirmed his deep connection to Osun State, describing the state as an important part of his identity, heritage and life story.
Momodu, who was born in Ile-Ife on May 16, 1960, said his connection to the state dates back to his parents. According to him, his father, Jacob Momodu, travelled from Ihievbe, in present-day Edo State, to Ile-Ife, where he met and married his mother, who hailed from Gbongan Olufi in Osun State.
The media personality said he spent his formative years and received his education in Ile-Ife from 1966 to 1988, eventually obtaining a Master’s degree.
“Ile-Ife was my rock,” Momodu said, reflecting on the role the ancient city played in shaping his life.
He also explained his support for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, whom he described as his “twin brother” because they were born just three days apart in May 1960.
Momodu said his support for Adeleke was not based on friendship or personal gain, but on his assessment of the governor’s performance in office.
“I supported Ademola Adeleke, not because he is my friend, or for pecuniary gains, but for the glaring evidence of his superlative performance,” he said.
The journalist stressed that his connection to Osun State would remain regardless of who occupies the Government House.
“I will forever remain a major stakeholder in Osun State, regardless of whoever is Governor,” he stated.
Momodu also noted that despite his access to influential men and women, he has never held a government position or sought political power.
He further called for restraint from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, warning that political power and wealth are not the only measures of success in life.
“Mr Wike, cool temper. Life is not determined only by power and wealth. Remember Tomorrow,” he said.
Reflecting on his upbringing, Momodu expressed gratitude to his parents for the love, values and spiritual foundation they gave him.
“I’m a child of destiny… And I know who I am,” he declared.
Momodu concluded his statement by highlighting the traditional titles he has received from communities in Nigeria and beyond, further underscoring his longstanding connections to different cultural communities.
His message was ultimately a declaration of pride in his roots and a reminder that, for him, Osun State represents far more than politics. It represents family, childhood, education, heritage and a significant part of his journey.
