NIGERIA – Senator Solomon Adeola has officially emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State following the party’s primary election held in Abeokuta.
Adeola, popularly known as “Yayi,” secured a sweeping victory after polling 304,055 votes during the exercise conducted across the state. His only challenger, Abayomi Hunye, failed to record any vote in the contest.
The result was announced by the chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee in Ogun State, Wale Ohu, at the party secretariat on Thursday.
The outcome further strengthens Adeola’s position within the ruling party after weeks of political consultations and endorsements by key APC stakeholders in the state. Prior to the primary, influential party leaders had reportedly backed his emergence as a consensus candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking after the announcement, Adeola praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for ensuring a peaceful and orderly primary process. He described the exercise as transparent and commended party members for maintaining unity throughout the contest.
The senator also pledged to continue the development agenda of the current administration if elected governor in 2027.
According to him, his administration would focus on sustaining ongoing projects while promoting stability within the party structure across Ogun State.
Political observers believe Adeola’s emergence may shape the early dynamics of the 2027 governorship race in Ogun, especially as discussions around power rotation and regional representation continue within the state’s political landscape.
Adeola currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly and remains one of the most influential figures within the Ogun APC structure.
