Award-winning Nollywood actor, Bucci Franklin, has revealed deeply personal details about his upbringing, describing his early years as “messy” and emotionally difficult after being raised solely by his mother following his father’s abandonment.
In a revealing conversation with media personality, Chude Jidenowo, Franklin said the absence of a father figure had a lasting impact on his life, adding that he eventually turned to drugs as a way of coping with the emotional void.
“I was a hot mess as a child. My dad abandoned me. My mom raised me alone, and I turned to drugs,” he said.
The actor, however, explained that he was able to overcome his addiction with the unwavering support and sacrifice of his mother, whom he credited for his survival and eventual success in the film industry.
Franklin noted that his journey has made him deeply aware of the struggles faced by single parents, stressing that children – especially boys – often need strong father figures while growing up.
He added that his current achievements are largely a reflection of his mother’s resilience and dedication in raising him alone.
