As Christians across the country celebrate Easter, several state governors have sent messages of goodwill to Nigerians, urging citizens to embrace peace, unity, and renewed hope.
They also called on the public to remember Nigeria in prayers, especially as the country continues to battle security challenges in different regions.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, encouraged residents to reflect on the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, saying His death and resurrection remain powerful reminders of forgiveness, reconciliation, and hope.
According to him, the resurrection represents victory over adversity and a fresh beginning for humanity.
“May this Easter season fill our hearts with peace, joy and renewed spiritual strength,” he said, urging people to use the period for reflection and deeper connection with God.
In Cross River State, Governor Bassey Otu also extended warm Easter greetings to Christians, describing the celebration as one of the most significant moments in the Christian faith.
In a message released through his Chief Press Secretary, Linus Obogo, Otu said Easter represents hope, redemption and the triumph of light over darkness. He noted that the journey from Good Friday to Easter Sunday serves as a powerful reminder that even in difficult times, faith and perseverance can lead to renewal.
He further urged Christians to let the lessons of humility, sacrifice, forgiveness and compassion guide their interactions with others.
In Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Nwifuru encouraged Christians to use the Easter season to pray for lasting peace and unity across Nigeria. He also called on Nigerians to extend kindness and support to the less privileged during the celebration.
According to him, the resurrection of Christ is a timeless reminder that hope always rises above despair.
Similarly, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, said Easter reflects the values of sacrifice, love and redemption, adding that the resurrection of Jesus Christ symbolises victory over life’s trials.
He urged residents of the state to hold firmly to the virtues of humility, forgiveness and compassion, stressing that these values are essential for building a peaceful and progressive society.
In Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah appealed for tolerance and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, saying the country’s progress depends largely on unity despite religious or ethnic differences.
He noted that Easter provides an opportunity for spiritual renewal and a reminder of the importance of sacrifice, redemption and collective responsibility.
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, who is also a Catholic priest, urged Christians to reflect the virtues demonstrated by Jesus Christ — love, sacrifice, endurance and forgiveness.
He described Christ’s resurrection as a powerful victory of light over darkness and called on citizens to strengthen bonds of brotherhood and peaceful coexistence.
Meanwhile, Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, used the occasion to stress the importance of religious harmony, noting that cooperation between Christians and Muslims remains vital for development.
According to him, unity among people of different faiths has helped the state make progress in areas such as education and healthcare.
Across board, the governors agreed on one message — that Easter should inspire Nigerians to choose peace, strengthen unity, and hold on to hope for a better nation.
