The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
Congratulating Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora, Tunji-Ojo described Eid-ul-Adha as a sacred festival rooted in faith, sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.
According to the statement, the holiday declaration reflects the Federal Government’s recognition and respect for the spiritual values and traditions of millions of Muslims observing the festival around the world.
“The Minister conveys the warm felicitations of the Federal Government to all Muslim faithful in Nigeria and throughout the Diaspora,” the statement read.
It added, “Eid ul Adha is a festival of deep spiritual significance, grounded in the values of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for one’s fellow man.”
The Federal Government also urged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the country and seek divine guidance as the nation continues efforts toward peace, security, and economic prosperity.
Eid-el-Kabir, also known as Eid-ul-Adha, is celebrated by Muslims globally in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s demonstration of total obedience to Allah.
