INEC Declares Ademola Adeleke Winner of 2026 Osun Governorship Election

Accord Party candidate secures 511,067 votes to defeat APC’s Bola Oyebamiji by 66,252 votes and earn a second term as Osun State governor.

OSOGBO, Osun State — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, securing a second term in office.

Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who recorded 444,815 votes.

The result gives Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes.

The declaration was made in the early hours of Sunday, August 16, after INEC completed the collation of results from the state’s 30 local government areas.

The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, formally declared Adeleke elected following the conclusion of the state-level collation in Osogbo.

Adeleke secured victory in 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, giving him enough votes to retain the governorship despite a strong challenge from the APC.

The final figures show Adeleke taking approximately 50.8 per cent of the total votes cast, while Oyebamiji secured about 44.2 per cent. The remaining votes were shared among the other candidates who participated in the election.

The election, held on Saturday, August 15, attracted candidates from several political parties, with the contest largely dominated by Adeleke and Oyebamiji.

Adeleke’s victory marks the continuation of his administration in Osun State and gives the incumbent governor another term to pursue his political and developmental agenda.

The announcement was followed by celebrations among supporters of the Accord Party in parts of the state, particularly in areas considered strongholds of the governor.

The 2026 election also represents another chapter in Adeleke’s political journey in Osun, following his victory in the 2022 governorship election.

With INEC’s declaration, Adeleke has now officially been returned as governor-elect of Osun State for another term.
