The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not in a position to win the 2027 presidential election unless it urgently resolves its internal crisis.
Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Wike said the Party’s lingering divisions have severely weakened its chances of returning to power, insisting that the PDP cannot defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in its current state.
The former Rivers State Governor said he remains a loyal member of the PDP but would not deceive Party members about its electoral prospects.
According to Wike, “It will be difficult, if not impossible, for the PDP to win the 2027 presidential election” if the Party continues to battle internal conflicts instead of rebuilding and presenting a united front.
He maintained that no political party can expect victory at the polls while grappling with unresolved leadership disputes and factional crises.
Wike also dismissed the growing opposition coalition seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, describing it as a gathering of politicians driven by personal ambition rather than national interest.
He argued that many of those championing the coalition have yet to resolve disagreements within their own political camps, making it difficult for Nigerians to see them as a credible alternative.
The FCT Minister reiterated his support for President Tinubu, saying he has never hidden his political position and would continue to back the President based on his conviction rather than personal gain.
According to him, his support for Tinubu is rooted in his belief that the President deserves another term in office, stressing that he has no reason to pretend about where he stands politically.
Wike also insisted that politics should not be driven by sentiment, adding that political parties must put their houses in order if they hope to win elections.
His latest remarks come amid continued political realignments and growing debates over the shape of the opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.
