New Network Enters Nigeria’s Mobile Market as STN Secures NCC Licence

Swift Telephone Network receives nationwide Unified Access Service Licence, opening a new chapter in Nigeria’s telecommunications industry

LAGOS, NIGERIA — Nigeria’s telecommunications market is set to welcome another operator as Swift Telephone Network Limited (STN) receives regulatory approval to operate as a full-service telecommunications provider.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has granted STN a Unified Access Service Licence (UASL), authorising the company to provide a broad range of telecommunications services, including voice, data, fixed and mobile services.

The NCC’s licence information shows that STN’s licence takes effect on October 1, 2026, opening a new phase for the company as it expands its telecommunications operations across Nigeria.

STN has been operating in Nigeria’s communications sector since 1998, when it began as a calling service supporting the NUGA Games. The company subsequently expanded into services including digital landlines, voicemail and business communication solutions.

The company says the new UASL represents a major step in its evolution into a broader Nigerian telecommunications operator.

According to STN Chief Executive Officer Oluwole Adetuyi, the licence marks “a new chapter” for the company as it prepares to expand its role in Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.

Expanding telecommunications services

With the UASL, STN can operate across a wider range of telecommunications services and potentially compete for customers in Nigeria’s increasingly digital communications market.

The company already provides services including voice communications, SMS, SIP trunking, cloud PBX, contact-centre solutions and conferencing services.

STN says it plans to invest in infrastructure development while creating opportunities for Nigerian engineers, technicians and other technology professionals.

The company also intends to work with local contractors, technology providers and international partners as it develops its telecommunications operations.

What consumers can expect

STN’s entry adds another potential source of competition to Nigeria’s telecommunications industry, which already has several established operators and a growing number of new telecommunications service providers.

However, the company’s impact on the consumer market will depend on the scale and speed of its network deployment, coverage, pricing and commercial rollout.

STN has not yet released all details of its planned nationwide mobile network deployment, including the full timetable for commercial consumer services.

The company says it will make additional announcements as it progresses with its new licence.
