Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have successfully disrupted a major kidnapping attempt allegedly linked to local secessionist groups.
The command said the operation was carried out following credible intelligence on plans by armed men to abduct residents in one of the state’s high-risk areas.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, officers moved swiftly to the location and engaged the suspects, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee. No victims were recorded, and no ransom was paid.
Authorities confirmed that weapons and other operational items were recovered during the raid. A manhunt is currently underway to apprehend members of the gang who escaped.
The police attributed the success to improved surveillance, community cooperation, and the ongoing clampdown on criminal networks operating under the guise of secessionist agitation in the South-East.
The Commissioner of Police praised officers for their bravery and urged residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
“Security remains our top priority. We will not allow criminal elements to hide behind any ideology to terrorise innocent citizens,” the statement read.
The foiled attempt comes amid heightened security operations across Anambra as the state government and federal agencies work to restore normalcy and protect lives and property.
